SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Norman E. Carroll of River Forest, who
4passed away on July 6, 2012; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Norman Carroll was born on October 17, 1929, in
6Chicago; his parents were Ralph and Edith (Fay) Carroll; and
 
7    WHEREAS, Norman Carroll earned his bachelor's degree in
8economics from Loyola University in 1956; he subsequently
9earned his master's degree in economics from DePaul University
10in 1964, his doctoral degree in business and economics from the
11Illinois Institute of Technology in 1971, and a second master's
12degree in accounting from Dominican University in 1983; and
 
13    WHEREAS, Norman Carroll served in a number of essential
14roles during his long career at Dominican University, including
15provost and vice president of academic affairs, academic dean,
16dean of the Graduate School of Business (now the Brennan School
17of Business), chair of the university's economics department,
18and professor of economics; after retiring from the post of
19provost and vice president of academic affairs in 2007, he
20rejoined the faculty as an esteemed university professor and
21professor of economics in the Brennan School of Business, where
22he taught until his passing; and

1    WHEREAS, As the founding dean of Dominican's graduate
2business school, Norman Carroll spearheaded an emphasis on
3internationalization; under his guidance, the university
4established executive MBA programs in Poland, the Czech
5Republic, China, and India and launched the School of
6Education, the Graduate School of Social Work, and the School
7of Professional and Continuing Studies; during his tenure, the
8university also initiated numerous partnerships and study
9abroad programs and opened additional campus locations and
10programs in online education; and
 
11    WHEREAS, Norman Carroll was preceded in death by his
12parents and his brother, Ralph Carroll, Jr.; and
 
13    WHEREAS, Norman Carroll is survived by his loving wife of
1452 years, Ruth (Charlton); his children, Mark (Betsy), Becky
15(John Guido), and John; his 7 grandchildren; his
16great-granddaughter; and his brothers, William and Donald;
17therefore, be it
 
18    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL
19ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with
20his family and friends, the passing of Norman E. Carroll; and
21be it further
