SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Khaldun "Khal" Everage of Chicago, who
4passed away on June 5, 2012; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Khaldun Everage was born in Chicago on June 12,
61970 to the union of Alonza and Delma Everage, both educators
7in the Chicago Public School System; he grew up at God's House
8of All Nations Church of God in Christ, where he sang in the
9choir and got into trouble with his brother Scott and his
10buddies Phil and Jason; he later united with the New Original
11Church of God in Christ and at the time of his passing he was an
12active member of Giant Steps International Church, where he
13served as the Chairman of the Men's Ministry; and
 
14    WHEREAS, After high school, Khaldun joined the United
15States Marine Corps and honorably served 2 tours in Saudi
16Arabia in Operations Desert Shield and Desert Storm; he
17received a Conduct Award, 2 awards for meritorious service, and
18several other awards for combat; after his tour of duty he
19attended Chicago State University and earned a Bachelor's
20Degree in Criminal Justice; he was working toward receiving his
21Master's Degree at Northeastern University; and
 
22    WHEREAS, On July 25, 1998, Khaldun married the love of his

1life, Dina Linne McReynolds; he was a loving and devoted
2husband and father and valued his family over anything else;
3and
 
4    WHEREAS, He helped pilot the Chicago Police Department's
5Juvenile Gang Intervention Partnership Program; he was an
6Investigator with Chicago's Office of Professional Standards
7and received his Gang Specialist Certification from the
8National Gang Crime Research Center; he was honored on the
9national level with the prestigious Frederick Thrasher Gang
10Intervention Award for his work in Chicago; last year he was
11honored as an "Everyday Hero" by groups including the Chicago
12Urban League; and
 
13    WHEREAS, After leaving the Chicago Police Department, he
14became the Project Manager and Gang Specialist for the Chicago
15Crime Commission; from 2002 until the time of his passing, he
16worked with the Chicago Public Schools, serving in the
17following capacities: National Safe and Drug Free Schools
18Coordinator in the Office of Specialized Services; Student
19Development Specialist in the Office of High School Programs;
20Regional Safety Facilitator in a partnership with the Bureau of
21Safety and Security and the Business Service Center; and as the
22Manager of Student Engagement and Community Outreach; and
 
23    WHEREAS, He was known throughout Chicago as the "go to"

1person for any youth related problems; he freely gave of his
2time and service to help children in times of crisis; his
3favorite expressions were "Make a great thing happen today" and
4"I'll see you at the top!"; and
 
5    WHEREAS, He was the Vice President of the Board of the
6Chicago State University Alumni Association, a Life Member of
7Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc, and the President of the Fire
8House Community Arts Center Board; and
 
9    WHEREAS, He was preceded in death by his mother, Delma
10Priest; and
 
11    WHEREAS, Khaldun "Khal" Everage is survived by his wife,
12Dina Linne; his children, Khylah Imani and Khalil Solomon; his
13father, Alonza Everage (Ruby); his brothers, Justin Everage and
14Scott Priest; his sisters, Tiffany Everage and Sameta Neal
15(Ronald Sr.); his best friend, Al Holman; his uncles; his
16aunts; his niece; his nephew; and his many cousins; therefore,
17be it
 
18    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL
19ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with
20his family and friends, the passing of Khaldun "Khal" Everage;
21and be it further

2presented to the family of Khaldun "Khal" Everage as a symbol
3of our sincere sympathy.
