SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Claire Ann Adkins of Carlinville, who
4passed away on April 1, 2012; and
 
5    WHEREAS, She was born in Richmond Heights, Missouri to
6Edward and Grace Gallaher Kiely; she attended Saint Louis
7University, where she was among the first group to graduate
8from the speech therapy program in 1950; she worked as a speech
9therapist in St. Louis and Springfield, Missouri public school
10districts before marrying Gene Adkins on August 2, 1952, whom
11she met while attending Saint Louis University; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Together, she and her husband raised their family
13in Carlinville, where in addition to being a loving wife and
14mother, she served on the Carlinville Hospital Board and
15Auxiliary, was a founding member of CMEC (the Carlinville
16Marijuana Education Committee), and volunteered as a speech
17therapist with children with mental disabilities and HEART
18(reading program for school children); and
 
19    WHEREAS, She enjoyed spending time with her family, playing
20bridge, and getting together with her tennis group and friends;
21she will be remembered always for the grace, strength, and
22beauty she brought to the lives of all those with whom she came

1in contact; and
 
2    WHEREAS, Claire Ann Adkins is survived by her husband,
3Gene; her brother, Ray (Jane) Kiely; her sister, Jane Cassidy;
4her children, Barry, Chris (Bob) Mathias, David (Gail), and Jim
5(Ellen) Adkins; and her grandchildren, Lexy and Audrie Adkins,
6Steve, Claire, Mary Beth, and Susie Mathias, Jeff and Greg
7Adkins, and Ian and Brennan Adkins; therefore, be it
 
8    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL
9ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with
10her family and friends, the passing of Claire Ann Adkins; and
11be it further
 
12    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
13presented to the family of Claire Ann Adkins as a symbol of our
14sincere sympathy.
