SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate believe that
3decent, safe, and affordable housing is an integral part of the
4American Dream and a goal of all residents of this State; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Individuals have the right to choose where to
6live, without discrimination based on race, color, religion,
7age, gender, family status, national origin, and/or
8disability; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Acts of housing discrimination and barriers to
10equal housing opportunity run counter to a common sense of
11fairness; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Federal and State laws affirm the right of every
13person to equal housing opportunities; and
 
14    WHEREAS, Fair housing is a positive community good; and
 
15    WHEREAS, Economic stability, community health, and human
16relations in the State of Illinois are improved by diversity;
17and
 
18    WHEREAS, Stable, integrated, and balanced residential
19housing patterns can be threatened by discriminatory acts and

1unlawful housing practices, resulting in fewer housing
2opportunities for some citizens; and
 
3    WHEREAS, The talents of grassroots and non-profit
4organizations, housing service providers, financial
5institutions, elected officials, State agencies, and others
6must be combined to promote and preserve fair housing and equal
7opportunity; and
 
8    WHEREAS, The Interfaith Housing Center of the Northern
9Suburbs will host the 8th Annual Fair Housing Month Event on
10April 25, 2012 at the Glenview Public Library to call attention
11to this issue; therefore, be it
 
12    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL
13ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we designate April of
142012 as Fair Housing Month in the State of Illinois in
15furtherance of this noble goal; and be it further
 
16    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
17presented to the Interfaith Housing Center of the Northern
18Suburbs as a symbol of our esteem and respect.
