SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Mary Price, who passed away on March 3,
42012; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Mary Price, nee McElroy, was born on February 23,
61911 in Meridian, Mississippi; she was adopted by Archie and
7Clarinda Barnes; she was only educated formally until the
8second grade; and
 
9    WHEREAS, She married Sam Linton and cared for him until his
10passing; later, she relocated and made Chicago her home; when
11her mother got sick, she moved her from Mississippi to Chicago
12and took care of her until her passing; during this time, she
13worked at the Woodmill Hotel on 46th and Woodlawn; this is
14where she met the love of her life, Jack Robert Price; they
15were married on February 23, 1967; and
 
16    WHEREAS, She joined Progressive Baptist Church in 1943
17under the leadership of the late Rev. T. E. Brown; she was an
18active member of the church and served on several stewardships
19within the church, including Sunday School Class #19, Unity
20Club, the Senior Citizens Club, and the Bessie Sanford Mission;
21"Sister" or "Mother Price" as she was affectionately known, was
22a faithful member for 69 years; and

1    WHEREAS, She loved to garden, loved her pets, and loved her
2church; she was preceded in death by her loving husband, Jack
3Price and her beloved brother, John T. Barnes; and
 
4    WHEREAS, Mary Price leaves to cherish her loving memory,
5her daughter, LaToya Price-Childs and son-in-law, Daniel K.
6Childs; her grandsons, Daniel and Kevin; a host of extended
7family members and friends, including her cousin, Lillie Mae
8Shack, her sisters-in-law, Ruby Barnes and Adeline Washington;
9her Goddaughter, Theresa Johnson; and her best friends, Mylee
10Funches, Hillman Francisco, Fannie Perry, Nick Childs, Andro
11Childs, and Blondell Ferrell; therefore, be it
 
12    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL
13ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with
14her family and friends, the passing of Mary Price; and be it
15further
 
16    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
17presented to the family of Mary Price as a symbol of our
18sincere sympathy.
