SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of John W. Harper of Gifford, who passed
4away on March 21, 2011; and
 
5    WHEREAS, He was born on June 10, 1926, in Gifford, the son
6of Leonard and Nellie (Jeakins) Harper; he attended Gifford and
7Rantoul schools, graduating from Rantoul Township High School
8in 1944; and
 
9    WHEREAS, He served two years in the United States Army
10during World War II in the Philippine Islands and Japan; upon
11returning home, he worked for the Illinois Central Railroad,
12retiring after more than 40 years; and
 
13    WHEREAS, He was a member of the Gifford United Methodist
14Church, the Penfield-Gifford American Legion Post 1153, and a
15charter member of the Gifford Fire Department; he was also the
16radio operator for the Gifford Fire Protection District; and
 
17    WHEREAS, He was preceded in death by his parents; and
 
18    WHEREAS, John Harper is survived by his sisters, Edith
19Brinker and Edna Bowen; his brother-in-law, Herb Bowen; and his
20niece, Janette Eger; therefore, be it

1    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL
2ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with
3his family and friends, the passing of John Harper; and be it
4further
 
5    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
6presented to the family of John Harper as a symbol of our
7sincere sympathy.
