SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Carlos J. Nelson, Sr., of Posen, who
4passed away on February 24, 2011; and
 
5    WHEREAS, He was born on March 19, 1930, on the Southside of
6Chicago, to Ernest and Mary Nelson; he was the oldest of five
7sons; and
 
8    WHEREAS, He attended St. Elizabeth's Elementary and High
9School; he attended Lewis University, where he excelled in his
10studies while playing football; and
 
11    WHEREAS, He was employed as one of the first
12African-Americans at Reynolds Metal in McCook, where he worked
13for nearly 40 years; he was a devoted member of St. Stanislaus
14Parish as well as a committed volunteer and civic servant to
15the village of Posen; and
 
16    WHEREAS, He enjoyed gardening, reading, cooking, and
17music; he followed the stock market; he traveled the country
18using his CB radio and his handle "Cisco"; he enjoyed bowling
19and golf, both of which he did for more than 50 years; and
 
20    WHEREAS, He was preceded in death by his parents; and his

1brothers, William, Earl "Lump", Ray, and Nate; and
 
2    WHEREAS, Carlos Nelson, Sr. is survived by his wife of 42
3years, Aurora; his son, Carlos; his daughters, Sharon (William)
4Karen, Linda (John), Elizabeth (Ron), Ernestina, Aurora, Carla
5(Randy), and Raquel (Steve); his brother, Bernard; his "sis",
6Myrtle; his 22 grandchildren; his 10 great-grandchildren; his
7nieces, nephews, other relatives; and his close friends;
8therefore, be it
 
9    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL
10ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with
11his family and friends, the passing of Carlos Nelson, Sr.; and
12be it further
 
13    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
14presented to the family of Carlos Nelson, Sr. as a symbol of
15our sincere sympathy.
