SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Thomas D. Mahoney of Edison Park, who
4passed away on January 3, 2011; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Thomas Mahoney was born on February 19, 1948; his
6parents were Joseph and Anna Marie Mahoney; and
 
7    WHEREAS, Thomas Mahoney attended grammar school at
8Immaculate Conception; he subsequently attended Saint Patrick
9High School, where he held the St. Patrick's HS Freshman
10100-yard dash track record for 25 years at 10.1 seconds; he was
11also a three-year letterman on the famed 1963, 1964, and 1965
12undefeated championship Shamrock football teams; and
 
13    WHEREAS, Thomas Mahoney graduated from DePaul University
14in 1970; that same year, he married the love of his life, Karan
15Holubiak; and
 
16    WHEREAS, Thomas Mahoney served as an educator at Saint
17Patrick High School for over 37 years; after serving as coach
18of the school's freshman football team, he taught law, general
19business, and typing classes and served as chairperson of the
20school's Business Department; he was also employed as a real
21estate broker in the northwest area of Chicago; and

1    WHEREAS, Thomas Mahoney was inducted into the Saint Patrick
2Hall of Fame in 2001 in recognition of his many contributions
3to Saint Patrick and its students; and
 
4    WHEREAS, Thomas Mahoney was the beloved husband of Karan
5for 40 years; the loving father of Eileen (Martin) Philbin and
6Joseph (Kirsten) Mahoney; the proud grandfather of Joey, Danny,
7Ava, and Olivia; the dear brother of Anita (Jim) McGowan,
8Joseph (Lea) Mahoney, and Margaret Mary (Jack) Fischer; and the
9fond uncle of many nieces and nephews; therefore, be it
 
10    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL
11ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with
12his family and friends, the passing of Thomas D. Mahoney; and
13be it further
 
14    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
15presented to the family of Thomas Mahoney as an expression of
16our sympathy.
