SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Ronald H. Sass of Roselle, who passed
4away on December 20, 2010; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Ronald Hilmer Sass was born in Berwyn, on May 31,
61943, to Hilmer and Winifred "Peg" Sass; he was baptized as a
7child on October 6, 1943, with his sister Donna Mae, at Trinity
8Lutheran Church in Willow Springs (now Burr Ridge); and
 
9    WHEREAS, He was instructed in the Lutheran faith at Trinity
10Lutheran in Willow Springs and confirmed his faith on April
1114,1957; he attended the Palisades Elementary School in Willow
12Springs; he was a graduate of Lyons Township South High School
13in Western Springs and then attended Eureka College; and
 
14    WHEREAS, He served his country in the United States Air
15Force from 1962 to 1965; he was stationed in New Mexico,
16Okinawa, and Thailand; he was involved as a member of American
17Legion Post 1084; and
 
18    WHEREAS, He worked as a salesman for Peabody Industrials of
19England selling capital equipment to the aluminum and steel
20industry; he became a purchasing agent for Genco-GFG Peabody, a
21manufacturer of coil coating equipment, in West Sussex,

1Wisconsin; and
 
2    WHEREAS, He met the woman of his life, Christine Birdsall,
3an owner of a travel agency, on a blind date set up by his
4friends at work; on September 9, 1967, they were married at the
5Elmhurst United Church of Christ; and
 
6    WHEREAS, He was the senior trustee on the Village Board of
7Roselle, serving for 24 years; from 1985 to 1987, he was a
8member of the Zoning Board of Appeals; he was a Roselle
9delegate to the referendum advisory committee of the DuPage
10Water Commission in 1985; he was appointed to the committee of
11the Northern DuPage Cable Television Agency and the Roselle
12Sister City Commission, which sent him as a representative to
13Bochnia, Poland; he also served as mayor pro tem several times;
14and
 
15    WHEREAS, He enjoyed fishing, golfing, playing cards, good
16music, and traveling; he was a member of Trinity Lutheran
17Church in Roselle; and
 
18    WHEREAS, Ronald Sass is survived by his wife, Christine;
19his son, Richard; his mother, Peg; his sisters, Donna Mae
20(Edward) Mersch and Peggy (Norval "Bud") Barger; his brother,
21Robert H. (Poppi) Sass; his brother-in-law, James (Sandra)
22Birdsall; and many nieces, nephews, and friends; therefore, be

2    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL
3ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with
4his family and friends, the passing of Ronald Sass; and be it
5further
 
6    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
7presented to the family of Ronald Sass as a symbol of our
8sincere sympathy.
