SENATE JOINT RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, Mr. John C. Schmitt serves as President of the
3Village of Algonquin, located in Kane and McHenry Counties; and
 
4    WHEREAS, Mr. Schmitt is a 23-year resident of Algonquin and
5has served the citizens of Algonquin for almost 21 years,
6holding positions on the Zoning Board of Appeals and the
7Village Board; for the last ten years, John C. Schmitt has held
8the leadership position of Village President and continues to
9do so; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Mr. Schmitt has been a proponent for a solution to
11traffic congestion at the most congested intersection in
12McHenry County, located at Illinois Routes 31 and 62; and
 
13    WHEREAS, Mr. Schmitt has passionately advocated for
14transportation and infrastructure improvements to meet rapidly
15growing community and regional needs in Algonquin and the
16northwest suburbs of Chicago; and
 
17    WHEREAS, Mr. Schmitt played a critical role in securing
18federal funding and support for the Illinois Route 31 Western
19Bypass project in Algonquin; and
 
20    WHEREAS, Once complete, the Illinois Route 31 Western

1Bypass will reduce traffic congestion, improve traffic flow,
2and enhance vehicle and pedestrian safety along the entire
3transportation corridor; therefore, be it
 
4    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL
5ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES
6CONCURRING HEREIN, that the State of Illinois does hereby
7declare that the Illinois Route 31 bridge being constructed on
8contract 60F72 over Illinois Route 62 in McHenry County be
9named the "President John C. Schmitt Bridge"; and be it further
 
10    RESOLVED, That appropriate markers, as directed by the
11Illinois Department of Transportation, be placed calling
12attention to this designation.
