     Amends the Carnival and Amusement Rides Safety Act. Provides that the Carnival-Amusement Safety Board shall consist of 9 (now, 8) members.  Sets forth requirements concerning qualifications of the appointed members. Further provides that  a majority of the 9 (now, 8) members of the Board constitutes a quorum. Effective immediately.

1    AN ACT concerning safety.
  
 
2    Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
 
3represented in the General Assembly:
  
 
 
4    Section 5. The Carnival and Amusement Rides Safety Act is 
5amended  by changing Sections 2-3 and 2-4 as follows:

7    Sec. 2-3. There is hereby created the Carnival-Amusement 
8Safety Board,
hereafter in this Act referred to as the "Board", 
9to consist of 9 8

members. One member shall be the Director. 
10Eight Seven members shall
be appointed by the Governor with the 
11advice and consent of the Senate.
The term of members shall be 
124 years, except that of those members initially
appointed by 
13the Governor, 1 shall be appointed for 3 years and 1 shall
be 
14appointed for 4 years, and of the members initially appointed 
15pursuant
to this amendatory Act of 2006, 1 shall be appointed 
16for 3 years.  Of the
8 7 appointed members of the Board, 2 1 
17shall be operators an operator of amusement rides who 
18reasonably represent the different geographic areas of the 
19State, 1 shall be an operator of fixed site amusement rides, 1 
20shall represent an association of agricultural fairs, 1 shall 
21represent the amusement ride manufacturer industry, 1 shall be 
22a registered professional engineer, 1 shall represent the 
23insurance industry, and 1 shall represent the general public.

1The Board shall advise the Department on carnival and amusement 
2safety matters.

5    Sec. 2-4. A majority of the 9 8 members of the Board 
6constitutes a quorum. The Board shall meet at least twice 
7yearly and at the call of the chairman
or by written request of 
8at least 5 members. The Board shall elect a chairman
and such 
9other officers as it deems necessary to perform its
duties 
10between meetings and may hire such clerical and administrative 
11help
as it deems necessary, to be paid out of the appropriation 
12to the Board.

14    Section 99. Effective date. This Act takes effect upon 
15becoming law.
