AMENDMENT TO SENATE BILL 636

2    AMENDMENT NO. ______. Amend Senate Bill 636 by replacing
3everything after the enacting clause with the following:
 
4    "Section 5. The School Code is amended by adding Sections
510-20.55 and 34-18.47 as follows:
 
6    (105 ILCS 5/10-20.55 new)
7    Sec. 10-20.55. Recess required in elementary school.
8    (a) A school board shall require that schools provide daily
9recess for all students in pre-kindergarten through grade 8.
10The recess must be at least 30 minutes in length. If recess is
11attached to a lunch period, then the recess must be held prior
12to the lunch period. Recess shall include unstructured play and
13may include organized games. If the principal determines that
14the weather is inclement, then the principal shall direct that
15recess be held indoors.
16    (b) The school board shall prohibit the withholding of

1recess as a disciplinary action.
2    (c) The time required for recesses by this Section is
3included in the minimum number of hours necessary to constitute
4a full day of attendance under Section 18-8.05 of this Code.
