HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, Since September 11, 2001, 2,700,000 people have
3served in the military, and their unemployment rate has
4constantly been higher than non-veterans; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Young veterans and women veterans often suffer
6even higher rates of unemployment; and
 
7    WHEREAS, Over 1,000,000 more Iraq and Afghanistan-era
8veterans are expected to return to civilian life in the next 5
9years; and
 
10    WHEREAS, The Department of Employment Security provides
11Illinois Job Link, a no-cost, self-service job matching system
12for job seekers and employers; and
 
13    WHEREAS, The Department of Veterans' Affairs offers other
14assistance to veterans through the VETS program, which includes
15assistance from local veteran employment representatives,
16workshops on job hunting, resume writing, and interviewing
17techniques, and federal contractors' job listings; and
 
18    WHEREAS, Illinois agencies and departments should continue
19to do everything in their power to help those who served our
20nation find employment; and

1    WHEREAS, The Internet provides a tool for veterans to
2locate services and information on available jobs; and
 
3    WHEREAS, An easily searchable web site that matches
4individualized job listings with individualized skill sets
5possessed by available veterans would help assist veterans in
6finding full-time employment; therefore, be it
 
7    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
8NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
9we urge the Department of Employment Security and the
10Department of Veterans' Affairs to create a veterans' jobs
11Internet web site, easily accessible to veterans, offering job
12openings that match their skills to prospective employers; and
13be it further
 
14    RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be
15presented to the Director of Veterans' Affairs and the Director
16of Employment Security.
