HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives wish to congratulate Valerie J. Van Meter on
4being awarded the 2012 Circle of Friends Award at the 18th
5Annual Friends of Chicago State University Award Dinner "Women
6in the Business of Transforming Lives" on September 20, 2012;
7and
 
8    WHEREAS, Valerie Van Meter is senior vice president and
9senior financial officer for the 7th Federal Reserve District;
10she leads the Central Bank Services Division, which includes
11Discount Window Lending, Payments System Risk, Reserve
12Accounting, and Statistical and Financial Reporting; she
13oversees the bank's Finance Division, is the director of the
14Office of Minority and Women Inclusion, and is a member of the
15bank's Management Committee; and
 
16    WHEREAS, Valerie Van Meter is a native of Detroit,
17Michigan; she began her career at the Detroit branch of the
18Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago in 1978; she held various
19positions with the California Federal Bank and First Interstate
20Bank of California from 1984 through 1993; she has been with
21the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago since 1993; and
 
22    WHEREAS, Valerie Van Meter has a Bachelor of Arts in

1Economics from the University of Michigan and is a graduate of
2the Stonier Graduate School of Banking; she returned to school
3in 2004 and obtained a Master of Business Arts from the
4University of Chicago; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Valerie Van Meter's two passions have always been
6education and ensuring the growth of minority professionals in
7the field of banking; she has been a mentor and sponsor to many
8within the Federal Reserve System; she served as a mentor to
9students with Chicago Scholars, professionals participating in
10the Menttium and Momentum programs, and worked to ensure
11internship opportunities for students of color; she has been a
12director for Junior Achievement of Chicago since 2004 and
13served as "Principal for a Day"; she has been a strong
14supporter of the Young Men's Educational Network of North
15Lawndale, the Chicago Minority Supplier Development Council,
16the Women's Business Development Center and has been a member
17of Chicago United Leader's Council since 2008; and
 
18    WHEREAS, Valerie Van Meter is married to Calvin Van Meter,
19Jr. and is the proud mother of sons Calvin III and Austin;
20therefore, be it
 
21    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
22NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
23we congratulate Valerie Van Meter on her receiving the 2012

2    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
