HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives are pleased to congratulate John Heath on the
4occasion of his retirement as Director of Bands at Batavia High
5School after 22 years of dedicated service; and
 
6    WHEREAS, John Heath earned his bachelor and master degrees
7in music education and his bachelor’s degree in tuba
8performance from the University of Illinois in
9Champaign/Urbana; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Prior to his tenure at Batavia High School, John
11Heath served as Director of Bands in Highland Illinois for 12
12years; he was also a member of the St. Louis Philharmonic
13Orchestra for 10 seasons and a past president of the Illinois
14Music Educators Association; and
 
15    WHEREAS, John Heath has conducted at the Illinois Summer
16Youth Music Camp and numerous IMEA District Band Festivals
17throughout the State of Illinois; he is also a Tri-M (Music
18Honor Society) Sponsor at Batavia High School; and
 
19    WHEREAS, John Heath has been the recipient of numerous
20honors for his work in music education, including the 2009 "Mr.
21Holland's Opus" Award, the 2004 Kane County Regional

1Superintendent’s Award for Teaching Excellence, the Illinois
2State Board of Education "Those Who Excel" Teaching Award, and
3the 1998 Chicagoland Outstanding Music Educator Award; he is an
48-time recipient of Who's Who Among America's Teachers and a
52-time recipient of the National Band Association Citation of
6Excellence; he was also a candidate for the Illinois Teacher of
7the Year award and was recognized in Who's Who in America; and
 
8    WHEREAS, John Heath serves as a model of hard work,
9integrity, and dedication for the people of the State of
10Illinois; therefore, be it
 
11    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
12NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
13we congratulate John Heath on the occasion of his retirement
14and wish him many happy and healthy retirement years; and be it
15further
 
16    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
17presented to John Heath as a symbol of our esteem and respect.
