HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Markusree
4"Che Che" Nichols, who passed away on March 27, 2012; and
 
5    WHEREAS, She was born in Shelby, Mississippi, on March 21,
61940, to Mr. Willie James and Blanche Johnson; at an early age,
7Markusree moved to Chicago, where she graduated from John
8Marshall High School; she met Ulysses "Nick" Nichols at the
9tender age of 15; in 1957, they married; and
 
10    WHEREAS, At an early age, Markusree accepted and professed
11Christ; in 1983, she joined Holy Family Lutheran Church, where
12she was a faithful member; for a short period she connected
13with Salem Baptist Church; she was beloved by the Cabrini Green
14Community and was the pillar of the original Local Advisory
15Council; and
 
16    WHEREAS, She helped campaign for many politicians in the
17area and was influential in pushing many new community programs
18at Lower North Center; she played a pivotal part in raising
19many children of Caprini; her home was often the center of
20activity; she was one of the first to have a garden in the row
21houses; and

1    WHEREAS, She leaves to cherish her memory, her daughters,
2Brenda (Kaye) Posley and Tyni (Steve) Jones; her sons, Ulysses
3"Binky" Nichols and Cyril (Theresa) Nichols; her
4grandchildren, Lacy, Cyril "Marshaun", Whittley, Mychal,
5Taylor, Kaylyn, Chloe, and Cyril Jr. "CJ"; her
6great-grandchildren, JoNathan, Jazell, Ja-honesti, and Keith;
7her twin brother, Claude "Marcus" Johnson; her sister, Laura
8Johnson; her dear niece and nephew, who she shared in raising,
9Jenice Jamison and Anthony Williams; her special cousins, AJ
10Whitney, Henry and Toni Darden, and Albert "Buck" (April)
11Crawford; her sisters-in-law, Marilyn (Bill) Haney and Laura
12Nichols; her brother-in-law, Frank (Doris) Nichols; her
13Godchildren, Janet Faulkner, Patricia Smith, Kimberly Smith,
14Rodney Bullock, and Fannie Brooks; and her very special
15friends, Sheila and Mary Lou; as well as a host of nieces,
16nephews, family, and friends; therefore, be it
 
17    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
18NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
19we mourn, along with her family and friends, the passing of
20Markusree Nichols; and be it further
 
21    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
22presented to the family of Markusree Nichols as a symbol of our
23sincere sympathy.
