HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives are pleased to honor Colonel Damon T. Arnold
4for his service to our nation and for his ongoing commitment to
5improving the health of the people of the United States; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Colonel Damon Arnold obtained his undergraduate
7degree from Howard University in Washington, D.C. and his M.D.
8and M.P.H. Degrees from the University of Illinois in Chicago;
9he completed his residency in internal medicine at Cook County
10Hospital, followed by a residency in occupational medicine; he
11also completed formal training in holistic medicine for
12therapeutic massage therapy and acupuncture; and
 
13    WHEREAS, Colonel Damon Arnold serves as the Director of the
14Public Health Graduate Program at Chicago State University; he
15also serves as an adjunct professor at the University of
16Illinois College of Medicine and the School of Public Health;
17and
 
18    WHEREAS, Colonel Damon Arnold was appointed as the 16th
19Director of the Illinois Department of Public Health on October
201, 2007; during his tenure as Director, he brought millions of
21dollars to the State of Illinois and was very active on the
22local, state, and federal levels; and

1    WHEREAS, For 26 years, Colonel Damon Arnold served in the
2Army National Guard as the Commander of the Joint Medical
3Command and State Surgeon General for 26 years; he completed 17
4overseas missions in locations such as Africa, Central America,
5South America, Europe, the Middle East, and Asia; he functioned
6as a mechanized infantry Combat Medic as well as a qualified
7Flight Surgeon on over 80 field operations in Iraq and Kuwait;
8and
 
9    WHEREAS, Colonel Damon Arnold was awarded the Military
10Legion of Merit Medal from President Barack Obama for his
11achievements; he was also awarded 3 Army Commendation Medals
12for his war-time deployments to Iraq and Kuwait, where he
13served as the Officer in Charge of battlefield medical
14operations; he was also the recipient of 2 National Defense
15Service Medals and numerous battlefield awards; and
 
16    WHEREAS, Colonel Damon Arnold serves as a member of the
17Harvard University L.A.M.P.S. Committee, the Institute of
18Medicine in Washington, D.C., the Association of State and
19Territorial Health Officials, and many federal-based
20organizations; he has published many articles and contributed
21to numerous publications over the years; therefore, be it
 
22    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE

1NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
2we honor Colonel Damon T. Arnold for his service to our nation
3and for his ongoing commitment to improving the health of the
4people of the United States and wish him continued success and
5happiness in the future; and be it further
 
6    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
7presented to Colonel Damon Arnold as a symbol of our esteem and
8respect.
