HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, State Representative Monique D. Davis and the
3Illinois House of Representatives congratulate Lois Nelson on
4the occasion of her retirement after 40 years of service in the
5Chicago Public Schools; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Eager to constantly improve her craft, Lois Nelson
7obtained her bachelor's degree and master's degree and
8undertook over 60 hours of formal education; she also earned a
9Youth Empowerment and Self-Sufficiency Mini-Society
10Certificate from the Illinois Institute for Entrepreneurship
11Education and an Advanced Certificate as a Gifted Teacher; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Lois Nelson has served as a tireless advocate for
13the Chicago Public Schools system and for better educational
14opportunities for all children; she served as a Lead Mentor in
15the Golden Teacher's Mentor Program for the Chicago Board of
16Education; she served as a union delegate at Earle Elementary
17School for over 30 years and as a delegate to the American
18Federation of Teachers and Illinois Federation of Teachers
19Conventions; she served as a member of the Chicago Teachers'
20Union Executive Board; she has participated in union lobbying
21efforts in Springfield as a political coordinator and co-chair
22of the union's Political Action Committee; she also served as
23chair of the Chicago Teachers' Union Fashion Show 2006 for the

1CTU Student Assistance Program and participated in the Mother's
2Day Walk for Cancer with CTU; and
 
3    WHEREAS, Lois Nelson served as a Chicago Teachers' Pension
4Fund Active Teacher Board Trustee from 2005 until 2010; she
5also served as the Chicago Teachers' Pension Fund Board Vice
6President - Chair of Personnel and the Chicago Teachers'
7Pension Fund Board Financial Secretary and Chair of Personnel,
8Finance, and Audit; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Lois Nelson has been a member of the National
10Sorority of Phi Delta Kappa, Inc. Mu Chapter for 25 years; she
11is a member of the Association for Gifted Children; she also
12serves as President of the Knights of Columbus Ladies Auxiliary
13Council #8973 at St. John De La Salle Catholic Church and as a
14church lector/commentator at St. John De La Salle; and
 
15    WHEREAS, In addition to her educational career, Lois Nelson
16served as a court reporter for Chicago Title & Trust; and
 
17    WHEREAS, Lois Nelson will celebrate her retirement with a
18party in her honor on December 30, 2011, at Crystal Light
19Banquets in Burbank; therefore, be it
 
20    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
21NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that

1we congratulate Lois Nelson on the occasion of her retirement,
2show our appreciation for her dedication to the education of
3her students and her advocacy on their behalf, and wish her
4many happy and healthy retirement years; and be it further
 
5    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
6presented to Lois Nelson as a symbol of our esteem and respect.
