HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of former
4State Representative Harry "Bus" Yourell of Oak Lawn, who
5passed away on September 19, 2011; and
 
6    WHEREAS, He was born in 1919 in Hammond, Indiana and grew
7up on the South Side of Chicago; he served in the Boy Scouts of
8America and would hike to spend time at the Boy Scouts camp in
9Valparaiso, Indiana; and
 
10    WHEREAS, He served in World War II and survived being
11bayonetted by a Japanese soldier; he earned a Bronze Star and 3
12Purple Hearts for his service; and
 
13    WHEREAS, He served in the Illinois House of Representatives
14from 1967 to 1984, serving in the 75th through 83rd General
15Assemblies; he was the first chairman of the Joint Committee on
16Administrative Rules and also served as Chairman of the
17Election Laws Commission and the County Problems Commission; he
18also served as Minority Spokesman for the Democrats in the 82nd
19General Assembly; and
 
20    WHEREAS, He also served as the Cook County recorder from
211984 to 1988, 18 years as the Metropolitan Water Reclamation

1District commissioner, was a trustee for the Village of Oak
2Lawn, and was a former Worth Township supervisor; and
 
3    WHEREAS, He and his wife enjoyed traveling around Europe
4and Asia together; he once kayaked alone from Florida to the
5Bahamas, as well as paddling up the Amazon River; he
6bungee-jumped on his 85th birthday in New Zealand and danced
7all night on his 90th birthday; and
 
8    WHEREAS, Harry Yourell was the beloved husband of Millie,
9nee Evan; the devoted father of Michele (Larry) Collings,
10Jeffrey (Nancy), and Peter Yourell; the proud grandfather of
11Darin Collings, Lisa Cleaveland, Jennifer Filipowski,
12Elizabeth Cataudella, and Ann Yourell; the great-grandfather
13of Jacob and Megan Collings, Lili and Pierce Cleaveland,
14Madison Yourell, and Steven Cataudella; the loving brother of
15the late Geraldine (the late Matthew) Stern; and the fond uncle
16of Harry Wolper; therefore, be it
 
17    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
18NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
19we mourn, along with his family, friends, and former
20colleagues, the passing of Harry "Bus" Yourell; and be it
21further
 
22    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
