HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives are pleased to congratulate Terrence P.
4Mastandrea of Lake Zurich on the occasion of his retirement as
5Chief of the Lake Zurich Fire Rescue Department after 21 years
6of dedicated service; and
 
7    WHEREAS, Terrence Mastandrea earned his bachelor's degree
8in business administration from Lewis University in Romeoville
9in 1980; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Terrence Mastandrea began his firefighting career
11with the Lewis University Fire and Security Department, where
12he served as a firefighter and patrol officer from 1977 to 1978
13and as fire chief and security sergeant from 1978 to 1980;
14after working at LPM Corporation in Des Plaines from 1980 to
151981, he began working at the Skokie Fire Department as a
16firefighter/paramedic in 1981; he steadily ascended the ranks,
17becoming duty chief of the department in 1988; and
 
18    WHEREAS, Terrence Mastandrea began his tenure with the Lake
19Zurich Fire Rescue Department as the fire-rescue chief and
20director of emergency management in 1990; as a member of the
21Village Executive Leadership Team, he has been instrumental in
22the execution of the department's mission to deliver effective,

1timely, and professional services to the Lake Zurich community;
2and
 
3    WHEREAS, During Terrence Mastandrea's tenure, the Lake
4Zurich Fire Rescue Department has planned, developed, and
5directed numerous progressive service activities relating to
6fire, emergency medical, emergency management, specialized
7rescue, and code enforcement for the Village of Lake Zurich and
8the Lake Zurich Rural Fire Protection District; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Terrence Mastandrea has been a member of numerous
10civic and emergency service organizations, including the
11National Fire Academy, the University of Maryland Fire and
12Rescue Institute's National Fire Service Staff and Command, the
13Illinois Fire Chiefs Association, the Lake County Fire Chiefs
14Association, the Northeastern Illinois Fire Chiefs
15Association, the MABAS Incident Command Team, the Mid America
16MABAS Consortium Task Force, the Northwest Community Hospital
17Large-Scale Emergency Planning Task Force, the Lake County
18Emergency Telephone Systems Board, the Lake County
19Pharmaceutical Mass Distribution Planning Task Force, and the
20Illinois Fire Chiefs Association Educational and Research
21Foundation Board; he has also served as a consultant to the
22Illinois Fire Chiefs Promotional Evaluation and Assessment
23Services and has delivered numerous presentations to the
24Illinois Fire Chiefs Association Conference Program and the

1Northern Illinois University MBA Career Development Program,
2among others; and
 
3    WHEREAS, Terrence Mastandrea has been the recipient of
4numerous awards and accolades, including the MABAS and IFCA
5"Humanitarian Service Medal" for deployments during Hurricane
6Katrina in 2005 and the Utica Tornado Deployment in 2004, the
7Village of Lake Zurich "Outstanding Government Employee" award
8in 1999, 2001, and 2005, and the Governors Award in 2001; he
9also placed 1st during the regional Firefighters Combat
10Challenge in 1994 and 2nd in the national Firefighters Combat
11Challenge in 1995; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Terrence Mastandrea serves as a model of hard
13work, integrity, and dedication for the people of the State of
14Illinois; therefore, be it
 
15    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
16NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
17we congratulate Terrence P. Mastandrea on the occasion of his
18retirement and wish him many happy and healthy retirement
19years; and be it further
 
20    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
21presented to Terrence Mastandrea as a symbol of our esteem and
22respect.
