HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives are pleased to congratulate Jane Hodgkinson on
4the occasion of her retirement as executive director of the
5Western DuPage Special Recreation Association (WDSRA); and
 
6    WHEREAS, Jane Hodgkinson began her advocacy for residents
7with disabilities in 1981; and
 
8    WHEREAS, During her 30-year tenure, Jane Hodgkinson lived
9and breathed the ethic she lived by, "Equal Fun for Everyone",
10by helping residents with disabilities realize their potential
11through equal access to recreational opportunities; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Jane Hodgkinson's exhaustive advocacy for
13Illinois residents with disabilities included her promotion of
14legislative measures to ensure expanded funding for special
15recreation services throughout the State of Illinois; and
 
16    WHEREAS, Jane Hodgkinson's focused commitment to improving
17the quality of life of residents with disabilities included
18professional service as a founding board member of the Illinois
19Special Olympics and in leadership positions with the Illinois
20Parks and Recreation Association, the Illinois Association of
21Park Districts, and the Park District Risk Management Agency;

1she also served as an instructor and trainer for Very Special
2Arts; and
 
3    WHEREAS, Jane Hodgkinson is the co-author of three books:
4"Introduction to Recreation and Leisure", "Art for All: Making
5It Happen", and "Volunteers: the Key to Successful Special
6Olympic Programs"; she also published over 25 articles in
7numerous professional publications, including Sports 'n
8Spokes, Athletic Business, and Chicago Special Parent, and the
9publications of the National Recreation and Park Association,
10the Florida Recreation and Park Association, and the Illinois
11Park and Recreation Association; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Jane Hodgkinson has served as a board member or
13chairperson on numerous committees and organizations,
14including the Illinois Special Olympics, the Illinois Park and
15Recreation Association and its Therapeutic Recreation and
16Administration and Finance Sections, the Illinois Association
17of Park Districts, the Parents Alliance Employment Project, the
18University of St. Francis Recreation Advisory Council, the
19College of DuPage Advisory Board, the Southern Illinois
20University Chicago Alumni Chapter, the Southern Illinois
21University Foundation, the Park District Risk Management
22Agency and its Risk Management Institute, the Marianjoy
23Rehabilitation Hospital, the National Recreation and Park
24Association CPRP Examination Board and Gold Medal Award Board,

1the DuPage County Autism Board of Directors, 100 Women Who
2Care, the Wheaton League of Women Voters, the Carol Stream
3Rotary Club, the Carol Stream Chamber of Commerce and its Women
4in Business Networking Group, the City of Wheaton
5Sesquicentennial Commission, the Paratransit Committee of
6DuPage County, the West Chicago Park Foundation Board, the
7Board of Directors of Life's Plan, Incorporated, the Wheaton
8Chamber of Commerce's Governmental Affairs Committee, and the
9Wheaton Park District Referendum Committee; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Jane Hodgkinson's tireless efforts on behalf of
11special needs residents has earned her well-deserved
12recognition by her profession, including the Robert Artz Award,
13the Fellow Award, and the Professional Award from the Illinois
14Park and Recreation Association, two National Golden Medal
15Awards from the National Recreation and Park Association, and
16the Outstanding Women Leader Community Service from the DuPage
17County YWCA; in 2010, she was named a Legend by the American
18Academy for Park and Recreation Administration; therefore, be
19it
 
20    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
21NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
22we congratulate Jane Hodgkinson on the occasion of her
23retirement and commend her for her 30 years of distinguished
24professional service and advocacy to area special needs
