HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives are pleased to congratulate Ronald Ackerman on
4his retirement as Chief of the West Chicago Fire Protection
5District; and
 
6    WHEREAS, He was born in 1957 in Geneva and was raised in
7Elburn; he attended Kaneland High School and graduated in 1975;
8while at Kaneland he played football, basketball, and ran track
9all 4 years; he was a member of the 1973 "Second in State"
10basketball team and a member of the 1975 State Champion track
11team; he was the State champion in the 880 yard dash and a
12member of the State champion mile relay team; and
 
13    WHEREAS, He attended the University of Kentucky on a track
14scholarship from 1976-1979; he was a member of the track team
15all 4 years and a member of the cross country team in 1979; his
16best performance while running for Kentucky was placing second
17in the 800-meter dash in the Southeast Conference; he graduated
18from the University of Kentucky in 1979 with a Bachelor of Arts
19in Education; and
 
20    WHEREAS, He attended Eastern Kentucky in 1980 and received
21a Bachelor of Science in Fire Protection and Control; and

1    WHEREAS, He was hired in 1980 as a career Firefighter with
2the West Chicago Fire Protection District; in 1985, he was
3promoted to Lieutenant and in 1986 he was promoted to Deputy
4Chief of Operations for the fire department; as Deputy Chief he
5was in charge of the day-to-day operations of the department as
6well as all fire prevention activities; in 2002, he was
7appointed to Chief of the Department and currently holds that
8position; and
 
9    WHEREAS, His duties as Chief included all administrative
10functions of the department as well as control of emergency
11incidents; over the last 9 years as chief he has belonged to
12several fire chief organizations and was President of the
13DuPage County Fire Chief's Association in 2007; he currently
14resides in West Chicago with his wife, Debbie, and has 2
15children, Amy and Matt; therefore, be it
 
16    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
17NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
18we congratulate Chief Ronald Ackerman on his retirement and his
19years of service as a Firefighter; and be it further
 
20    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
21presented to Chief Ronald Ackerman as a symbol of our respect
22and esteem.
