HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives are pleased to congratulate Derrick Rose,
4guard with the National Basketball Association's (NBA) Chicago
5Bulls, on becoming the youngest Most Valuable Player (MVP) in
6the history of the NBA; and
 
7    WHEREAS, He accepted the award during a ceremony held on
8May 3, 2011 in Lincolnshire; and
 
9    WHEREAS, At 22, he unseated Wes Unseld, who won the award
10in 1969 at the age of 23; and
 
11    WHEREAS, During the ceremony, he paid tribute to his
12mother, who had a front-row seat to watch her son receive his
13honors, as well as his older brothers; and
 
14    WHEREAS, Derrick Rose was born and raised in the Englewood
15neighborhood of Chicago and is the son of Brenda Rose; he was a
16student and graduated from Simeon Career Academy in Chicago in
172007; and
 
18    WHEREAS, Derrick Rose was drafted first by the Chicago
19Bulls in the 2008 NBA draft; he joins former Chicago Bulls
20all-star Michael Jordan as the only Bulls player to earn an MVP

1honor; therefore, be it
 
2    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
3NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
4we congratulate Derrick Rose on being the youngest MVP in the
5history of the NBA and wish him continued success both on and
6off the basketball court; and be it further
 
7    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
8presented to Derrick Rose as a symbol of our respect and
9esteem.
