HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Nathalie
4Ann Johnson, who passed away on March 23, 2011; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Nathalie Ann Johnson was born on July 19, 1930, in
6Chicago; her parents were Angelina Ledoux and Ernest Leufroy;
7she married James D. Johnson, Sr.; and
 
8    WHEREAS, Nathalie Ann Johnson began her formal education in
9New Orleans, Louisiana; she later attended Brownell
10Elementary, Parker High School, and Englewood High School in
11Chicago; she subsequently earned her associate's degree from
12Loop College; and
 
13    WHEREAS, Nathalie Ann Johnson was employed as a secretary
14for numerous corporations for many years; she was also employed
15with the City of Chicago; and
 
16    WHEREAS, Nathalie Ann Johnson was an active member of her
17community; she was a member of Breadbasket (now P.U.S.H.) and
18recommended the name to the Skills Bank Group at the time; she
19served as secretary of the Stony Island Park Civic Association
20and as recording secretary of the South East Community
21Organization; she was a member of the CVS, Caldwell-MacDowell,

1and South Shore PTAs; she was also a member of the Leadershiup
2Institute, the National Black Political Convention, the
3Community Resource Council, the Children's Foundation, the
4Women of Ekwefi, the Steering Committee of the Illinois
5Coalition Against the Death Penalty, the Afro-American Voters
6Alliance, the Citizen Information Service, the League of Black
7Women, the Lu Palmer Foundation, the "Black Express" Board of
8Coalition of Affirmative Action Policy, Erheard Seminar
9Training, the Shule ya Watoto Council Resource, the House of
10the Black Madonna, and Diaspora Spirit, as well as a soup
11kitchen and a suicide hotline; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Nathalie Ann Johnson enjoyed swimming, travelling
13throughout the world, and volunteering for numerous local,
14national, and international causes; and
 
15    WHEREAS, Nathalie Ann Johnson was preceded in death by her
16parents; her husband; her son, James D. Johnson, Jr.; and her
17brother, Warren "Cookie" Leufroy; and
 
18    WHEREAS, Nathalie Ann Johnson is survived by her children,
19John E. Patterson and Angela Morris; her daughter-in-law,
20Alexis; her brother, Ambrose "Harry" Leufroy-Tyner; her
21grandchildren, Angel D. Jones, Rekia R.M. Jones, Zachary W.
22Morris, Jr., Joshua Patterson, and Jacob Gartner; her
23great-granddaughters, Angel M. Davis and Imani R. Jones; her

1great-great-granddaughter, Aja M. Thomas; her nephews, Harry,
2Jr., Larry, and Edward Tyner; her many cousins; and the many
3members of her international surrogate family; therefore, be it
 
4    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
5NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
6we mourn, along with her family and friends, the passing of
7Nathalie Ann Johnson; and be it further
 
8    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
9presented to the family of Nathalie Ann Johnson as an
10expression of our sympathy.
