HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Erwin J.
4Korczynski of Chicago, who passed away on January 5, 2011; and
 
5    WHEREAS, He was born in Chicago on March 30, 1942; his
6father, Edwin W., and mother, Helen V., owned and operated
7Helen's Restaurant in Chicago; and
 
8    WHEREAS, He was a member of Boy Scout Troop 153 and
9attained the rank of Life Scout; he was a graduate of Lane
10Technical High School in Chicago, class of 1960, and was a
11member of the Lane Technical Track and Field Team, lettering in
12the sport; and
 
13    WHEREAS, He marched in the Chicago Cavaliers, located in
14Logan Square, during the "Golden Years" between 1956 and 1963;
15he attended Northern Illinois University in DeKalb and then
16enrolled in the Priesthood at St. Ambrose Seminary; he
17interrupted his education and enlisted in the United States
18Marine Corps in 1963; and
 
19    WHEREAS, During the Vietnam War he served with the Marine
20Attack Squadron VMA 131 and attained the rank of Sergeant; he
21served as a Blue and Gold Officer for the United States Naval

1Academy for nine years; and
 
2    WHEREAS, He acted as Captain and Pilot in Command for
3Eastern Airlines in Miami, Florida; Evergreen Airlines in
4Portland, Oregon; Emirates Airlines in Dubai, United Arab
5Emirates; Saudi Airlines in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia; Air Lanka in
6Colombo, Sri Lanka; USAfrica in Cape Town, South Africa; and
7EVA Air in Taipei, Taiwan; and
 
8    WHEREAS, He was type rated in Boeing 727 and 757, Airbus
9300 and 310, and McDonell Douglas MD-11; he acted as Pilot in
10Command flying twenty-five Combat Missions during Operations
11Desert Shield and Desert Storm; and
 
12    WHEREAS, He loved his second-generation Polish heritage;
13he is survived by his twin brother, Edwin J. "Ski" Korczynski;
14his wife, Henrietta; his daughters, Elizabeth J. and Kriesten;
15his sons, Ryan J. and Christian J.; his friends; and all those
16whose lives he touched; therefore, be it
 
17    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
18NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
19we mourn, along with his family and friends, the passing of
20Erwin Korczynski; and be it further
 
21    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
