HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, Parkinson's disease is a progressive neurological
3movement disorder of the central nervous system; the disease
4has a unique impact on each patient; and
 
5    WHEREAS, According to the Parkinson's Action Network,
6Parkinson's Disease Foundation, the National Parkinson
7Foundation, the American Parkinson Disease Association, and
8the National Institutes of Health, there are over one million
9Americans diagnosed with Parkinson's disease; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Symptoms of Parkinson's disease include slowness,
11tremor, difficulty with balance and speaking, rigidity, and
12cognitive and memory problems; and
 
13    WHEREAS, Although new medicines and therapies may enhance
14life for some time for people with Parkinson's disease, more
15work is needed for a cure; and
 
16    WHEREAS, Increased education and research are needed to
17find more effective treatments with fewer side effects and,
18ultimately, a cure for Parkinson's disease; and
 
19    WHEREAS, A multi-disciplinary approach to Parkinson's
20disease care includes local wellness, support, and caregiver

2    WHEREAS, The month of April has been proclaimed as World
3Wide Parkinson's Awareness Month in order to recognize the need
4for more research and help in dealing with the devastating
5effects of Parkinson's disease; therefore, be it
 
6    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
7NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
8we designate the month of April as Parkinson's Disease
9Awareness Month in the State of Illinois to aid in the fight
10against Parkinson's disease and its effects on the people of
11this State and the world at large.
