10 ILCS 5/1-6

    Amends the Election Code. In a Section concerning the computing of dates of various acts allowed or required by the Election Code, provides that the definition of "State holiday" includes Christmas Eve.

1    AN ACT concerning elections.
 
2    Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3represented in the General Assembly:
 
4    Section 5. The Election Code is amended by changing Section
51-6 as follows:
 
6    (10 ILCS 5/1-6)
7    Sec. 1-6. Computing dates of various acts; Saturday,
8Sunday, and holidays.
9    (a) If the first or last day fixed by law to do any act
10required or allowed by this Code falls on a State holiday or a
11Saturday or a Sunday, the period shall extend through the first
12business day next following the day otherwise fixed as the
13first or last day, irrespective of whether any election
14authority or local election official conducts business on the
15State holiday, Saturday, or Sunday.
16    (b) For the purposes of this Section, "State holiday" means
17New Year's Day, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.'s Birthday,
18Lincoln's Birthday, President's Day, Casimir Pulaski's
19Birthday, Good Friday, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor
20Day, Columbus Day, Veterans' Day, Thanksgiving Day, Christmas
21Eve, Christmas Day, and any other day from time to time
22declared by the President of the United States or the Governor
23of Illinois to be a day during which the agencies of the State

1of Illinois that are ordinarily open to do business with the
2public shall be closed for business.
3    (c) Notwithstanding any other provision of this Code,
4nominating papers, petitions of objection to nominating
5papers, certificates of withdrawal of candidacy, and reports of
6political committees actually received by election authorities
7and local election officials on a State holiday, a Saturday, or
8a Sunday shall not be deemed invalid or defective for that
9reason alone.
