    Amends the Fish and Aquatic Life Code. Provides that a person may not possess, sell, offer for sale, trade, or distribute a shark fin. Defines "shark" and "shark fin".

1    AN ACT concerning fish.
 
2    Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3represented in the General Assembly:
 
4    Section 5. The Fish and Aquatic Life Code is amended by
5adding Section 5-30 as follows:
 
6    (515 ILCS 5/5-30 new)
7    Sec. 5-30. Shark fins.
8    (a) As used in this Section, "shark" means any species of
9the subclass Elasmobranchii.
10    (b) As used in this Section, "shark fin" means a raw,
11dried, or otherwise detached fin or a raw, dried, or otherwise
12processed detached tail of a shark.
13    (c) Except as otherwise provided in subsection (d) of this
14Section, a person may not possess, sell, offer for sale, trade,
15or distribute a shark fin on or after January 1, 2013.
16    (d) Until July 1, 2013, any person may possess, sell, offer
17for sale, trade, or distribute a shark fin possessed by that
18person on January 1, 2013.
