    Amends the School Code. Provides that each school board shall require at least 60 minutes of reading instruction per day for any student whose reading level is one grade level or lower than his or her current grade level according to current learning standards and the school district. Effective immediately.

1    AN ACT concerning education.
 
2    Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3represented in the General Assembly:
 
4    Section 5. The School Code is amended by adding Sections
510-20.53 and 34-18.45 as follows:
 
6    (105 ILCS 5/10-20.53 new)
7    Sec. 10-20.53. Minimum reading instruction. Each school
8board shall require at least 60 minutes of reading instruction
9per day for any student whose reading level is one grade level
10or lower than his or her current grade level according to
11current learning standards and the school district.

13    Sec. 34-18.45. Minimum reading instruction. The board
14shall require at least 60 minutes of reading instruction per
15day for any student whose reading level is one grade level or
16lower than his or her current grade level according to current
17learning standards and the school district.
 
18    Section 99. Effective date. This Act takes effect upon
19becoming law.
