SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Dr. Lorraine D. Williams of East St.
4Louis, who passed away on September 5, 2010; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Dr. Lorraine Williams, RN, APN-BC, Associate
6Professor of the School of Nursing of Southern Illinois
7University Edwardsville, was born July 4, 1939, in Lovejoy; she
8was the third child born to Ervin M. and Idell (Kelly) Ward;
9she was a graduate of East St. Louis Lincoln High School Class
10of 1955 and was Valedictorian; and
 
11    WHEREAS, At an early age, she was baptized and accepted
12Christ as her Savior at Southern Mission Baptist Church and was
13a member of St. Paul Baptist Church, East St. Louis; she was
14married on November 14, 1959 to Alfonzy Williams; they were
15best friends and companions for 51 years; and
 
16    WHEREAS, In addition to being an Associate Professor at
17Southern Illinois University, she was the Director of Project
18Pilgrims and Progress in Childcare (Professors Summer Camp) and
19an Assistant Professor of the School of Nursing; she received
20her B.A. degree from Southern Illinois University; a Master's
21Degree in Education from Southern Illinois University in
22Edwardsville; a Master's Degree in Nursing at Southern Illinois

1University in Edwardsville, and her Ph.D. at Southern Illinois
2University in Carbondale; she was a member of Phi Delta Kappa,
3Sigma Theta Tau, and Kappa Delta; her true passion and love was
4Project Gain; and
 
5    WHEREAS, She was preceded in death by her parents, Ervin
6and Idell Ward; and her brothers, Roscoe Ward, Eugene Ward, and
7Larry Ward; and
 
8    WHEREAS, Dr. Lorraine Williams is survived by her beloved
9husband, Alfonzy Williams; her son, Anthony Ward (Delores); her
10granddaughter, Jasmine Ward; her grandson, Anthony Ward, Jr.;
11her sister, Ohala Townsend; her brothers, Ervin Ward, Jr.
12(Wilma), David Ward, and Donald Ward; her sisters-in-law, Suzy,
13Mary, Dorothy, and Rebecca; her brother-in-law, Jeff; and a
14host of nieces and nephews; therefore, be it
 
15    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL
16ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with
17her family and friends, the passing of Dr. Lorraine Williams;
18and be it further
 
19    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
20presented to the family of Dr. Lorraine Williams as a symbol of
21our sincere sympathy.
