SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3 learn of the death of Antonia Krueger, who passed away on
4 February 22, 2010; and
 
5     WHEREAS, Antonia Krueger grew up in Boston as the oldest of
6 6 children of Italian immigrants; her parents ran a fruit and
7 vegetable store on the Boston's north side, requiring her to
8 delay going to school in order to watch her younger siblings;
9 she eventually became the first in her family to graduate from
10 high school; and
 
11     WHEREAS, At the onset of World War II, Antonia Krueger went
12 to work in the Boston Naval Shipyard; wanting to do more, she
13 enlisted in the United States Navy, where she received medical
14 training as a naval corpsman; while stationed in Washington
15 D.C. and working in a hospital, she met her future husband,
16 Alfred, a Marine who was recovering from malaria; the couple
17 was married on the Quantico Marine Corps base before being
18 stationed at numerous bases across the country; and
 
19     WHEREAS, In 1958, Antonia Krueger and her family settled in
20 Palatine, where the couple raised their children; she then
21 worked as a hairdresser and became a member of the Palatine
22 American Legion Post 690; and

1     WHEREAS, Antonia Krueger was preceded in death by her
2 husband and her daughter, Alice Mika; and
 
3     WHEREAS, Antonia Krueger is survived by her daughter,
4 former Palatine Mayor Rita Mullins; her son, Steven; and her 4
5 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren; therefore, be it
 
6     RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL
7 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with
8 her family and friends, the passing of Antonia Krueger; and be
9 it further
 
10     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
11 presented to the family of Antonia Krueger as an expression of
12 our sympathy.
