SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate were saddened
3 to learn of the death of Richard S. "Dick" Clarke, who passed
4 away on January 16, 2010; and
 
5     WHEREAS, Dick was born in Louisville, Kentucky on August
6 23, 1034, the first born of Jesse Edward Clarke and Sarah
7 Elizabeth Pilkerton and was the eldest of eight children; and
 
8     WHEREAS, Dick married his wife, Connie, in 1956, and had
9 three children; Stuart, Stephen, and Susan; and
 
10     WHEREAS, Dick trained to be a teacher at Illinois State
11 Normal, and subsequently worked as a science educator,
12 industrial engineer, manufacturing executive, salesman,
13 consultant, and entrepreneur; and
 
14     WHEREAS, Dick also wrote for a science encyclopedia, was a
15 science fair director, a violinist, a gymnast in a traveling
16 circus, and a poet; and
 
17     WHEREAS, Dick was a very religious and spiritual man, as
18 well as a devout Catholic for the last sixty-three years,
19 teaching CCD at St. Margaret Mary for many years; and

1     WHEREAS, Dick was a devoted father to each of his children,
2 and was deeply saddened by the loss of his daughter, Susan, at
3 the age of sixteen; and
 
4     WHEREAS, Richard S. "Dick" Clarke is survived by his wife
5 of fifty-four years, Connie, nee Koga; his devoted children,
6 Stewart (Mary Margaret) and Stephen J. (Renee); and his
7 grandchildren, Dustin, Steven Ray, Nikita, and Cheyanne Rose;
8 he was the fond brother of David (Joy), Rose Harbour, Bonnie
9 (late Steven) Kingsbury, Debbie (Gerry) del Junco, the late
10 Betty Jean (late John) Schultz, Ginny (Jim) Betts, and Phillip
11 Clarke; and the brother-in-law of Maurice (Mary) Koga;
12 therefore, be it
 
13     RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL
14 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with
15 his family and friends, the passing of Richard S. "Dick"
16 Clarke; and be it further
 
17     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
18 presented to the family of Richard S. "Dick" Clarke as a symbol
19 of our sincere sympathy.
