SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3 learn of the death of Pastor Jacqueline Scott, who passed away
4 on October 14, 2009; and
 
5     WHEREAS, Jacqueline Scott was born on April 7, 1946, in
6 Chicago; her parents were the late William Jr. and Arnette
7 Moseberry; and
 
8     WHEREAS, Jacqueline Scott attended Betsy Ross Elementary
9 School, Chicago Vocational High School, DePaul University, and
10 Roosevelt University; and
 
11     WHEREAS, At an early age, Jacqueline Scott worshipped at
12 the Greater Metropolitan Missionary Baptist Church, where she
13 was a member of the youth choir; at the age of 21, she gave her
14 life to Christ; she attended the Holy Miracle Pentecostal
15 Church for many years before studying under the direction of
16 the late Reverend Inez Campbell; she then attended St. Mary's
17 Church of Prayer and was ordained on May 15, 1977; she was also
18 a member of the Life Center Church of God in Christ under the
19 direction of Pastor T.L. Barrett; when Reverend Campbell took
20 ill, Pastor Scott returned to St. Mary's and was installed as
21 the church's pastor on June 11, 1995; and

1     WHEREAS, Jacqueline Scott was a dedicated employee of the
2 American Bar Association for 26 years; after her retirement,
3 she continued to serve as Pastor at St. Mary's Church of
4 Prayer; she also performed volunteer work in the Roseland
5 community; and
 
6     WHEREAS, Jacqueline Scott was a member of the board of the
7 34th Ward Ministers Alliance, the executive council of the
8 Chicago Department of Human Services, the advisory board of the
9 Lakefront Supportive Housing, and the Metropolitan Spiritual
10 Churches of Christ; she also served as the co-host of the
11 International Sunday School Hour for many years; and
 
12     WHEREAS, Jacqueline Scott was preceded in death by her
13 parents; her sister, Pamela; and her grandson; and
 
14     WHEREAS, Jacqueline Scott is survived by her children,
15 Michael (Virginia), Elita (Ulysses), Marquesa, and Kendall;
16 her brother, Melvin; her sisters, Nola, Charmaine, Doris, and
17 Valerie; her grandchildren, Tiffany, Michael Jr., Gabrielle,
18 Giorgio, Nicholas, Cleveland, Regina, Briana, Michael III,
19 Jordan, and Brandon; her life-long friends, Ruthann Sampson and
20 Burnett Thomas; and her many other relatives and friends, as
21 well as the congregation of St. Mary's Church of Prayer;
22 therefore, be it

1     RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL
2 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with
3 her family and friends, the passing of Pastor Jacqueline Scott;
4 and be it further
 
5     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
6 presented to the family of Jacqueline Scott as an expression of
7 our sympathy.
