SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3 learn of the death of Leanna Katrina Curry German of Chicago,
4 who passed away on September 29, 2009; and
 
5     WHEREAS, She was born on October 30, 1930 in Medon,
6 Tennessee to Mary Celestine (Donald) and Donnell Curry, Sr.;
7 she attended elementary school in Centreville and graduated
8 from Lincoln Senior High School in 1949; and
 
9     WHEREAS, Lee, as she was affectionately called, married
10 Berwyn Morgan in 1950 and they had one child; she married
11 Jonnie German in 1972 and they enjoyed 32 years together until
12 his passing in 2004; and
 
13     WHEREAS, She worked for Stix, Baer, and Fuller, employed as
14 a waitress in the tea room; she served as Executive Director of
15 the Emily Willis Day Care until its closing; and she later
16 employed as a caseworker with General Assistance, where she
17 retired; and
 
18     WHEREAS, She was a dedicated member of the Truelight
19 Baptist Church and served with the Willing Workers Culinary
20 Committee; she was an active participant in the Lincoln High
21 School Forty-Niners; and she enjoyed caring for her friends and

1 family, and cooked for anyone, never asking for or needing
2 help; and
 
3     WHEREAS, She was preceded in death by her parents; her
4 sisters, Margaret, Mary Frances, Bernice, and Geneva; and her
5 brother, Donnell, Jr.; and
 
6     WHEREAS, Leanna German is survived by her daughter, Sandra
7 Lanette (Ulysses) Cox; her grandson, Eric Lamont (Jessica) Cox;
8 her great-grandson, Eric Lamont, Jr.; her stepchildren, Jerry
9 (Sandra), Terry, Perry (Shirley), Jonnie, Jr. (Rochelle), and
10 Timothy German; the German grandchildren, Jerry, Jr.,
11 Sharondolyn, Patrick, Perry, Jr., Melanie, Jonnie, Jr.,
12 Timothy, II, Nathaniel, and Antonio German; her sister, Shirley
13 (Dr. Herschel) Garrett; her stepmother, Ethel B. Curry; her
14 brother-in-law, Wesley Momon; her godchildren, Mrs. Felita
15 Tharp McCaskill and Levander Smith, Jr.; her life-long friends,
16 Wilhelmina Smith and Myrtle Woody; and her nieces, nephews,
17 cousins, and many friends; therefore, be it
 
18     RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL
19 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with
20 her family and friends, the passing of Leanna German; and be it
21 further
 
22     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
