SENATE JOINT RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, During the 95th General Assembly, Senate Joint
3 Resolution 9 created the Illinois Justice Study Committee to
4 review all non-capital wrongful felony conviction cases that
5 have been resolved as of the effective date of that resolution
6 and which resulted from DNA testing; a pardon granted on the
7 basis of actual innocence; and dismissal of charges or
8 acquittals upon a retrial based on relief granted by either the
9 Illinois Appellate or Supreme Courts, or the federal District,
10 Court of Appeals, or United States Supreme Court; and
 
11     WHEREAS, The Illinois Justice Study Committee was to report
12 its findings and recommendations to the Governor and the
13 General Assembly by December 31, 2008; and
 
14     WHEREAS, The Illinois Justice Study Committee needs
15 additional time to complete its work; therefore, be it
 
16     RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL
17 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES
18 CONCURRING HEREIN, that the Illinois Justice Study Committee
19 created by Senate Joint Resolution 9 of the 95th General
20 Assembly shall submit its report by December 31, 2010; and be
21 it further

1     RESOLVED, That with this reporting extension, the Illinois
2 Justice Study Committee shall continue to operate pursuant to
3 Senate Joint Resolution 9 of the 95th General Assembly.
