HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives are pleased to honor Dr. O.C. Morgan, Sr. for
4his work and dedication to his church and his community; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Dr. O.C. Morgan, Sr. received his general
6education in Little Rock, Arkansas; he subsequently received
7his leadership training at Moody Bible Institute and his
8Biblical training at Chicago Baptist Institute; he later
9received an Honorary Doctorate from Urban Bible College in
10Michigan in 1988 and an Honorary Doctorate of Divinity from
11Arkansas 1st College in 1992; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Dr. O.C. Morgan, Sr. confessed his calling to the
13ministry in 1949 in Chicago at the Greater Lily Baptist Church,
14under the pastorate of Reverend G. B. Lock; he then served as
15an associate minister for 2 years; he was ordained in 1951 by
16Reverend L. H. Haynes; in 1958, he was called to Johnson Singer
17Baptist Church of Illinois, where he served until he was called
18to Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church of Chicago in 1959; in 1960,
19he was called to the Evening Star Missionary Baptist Church,
20where he has served as pastor for 43 years; and
 
21    WHEREAS, From 1987 to 1990, Dr. O.C. Morgan, Sr. served as
22president of the Baptist Minister's Conference of Chicago and

1vicinity; he later became the President of the Chicago Chapter
2of the International Fellowship of Christians for Missions and
3Coordinator of the State of Illinois Home Mission Board; and
 
4    WHEREAS, Dr. O.C. Morgan, Sr. is the father of 4 beautiful
5children, Ronald Owens, Larry Washington, Tracey Morgan, and
6Odis Morgan, Jr., and his adopted daughter, Michelle Carlisle;
7he also has 44 nieces and nephews, 165 great-nieces and
8nephews, 96 great, great-nieces and nephews, and 17 great,
9great, great-nieces and nephews; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Dr. O.C. Morgan, Sr. serves as a model of hard
11work, integrity, and dedication for the people of the State of
12Illinois; therefore, be it
 
13    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
14NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
15honor Dr. O.C. Morgan, Sr. for his many accomplishments and
16wish him continued success and happiness in the future; and be
17it further
 
18    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
19presented to Dr. O.C. Morgan, Sr. as a symbol of our esteem and
20respect.
