HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, Judge Patrick E. McGann was admitted to the
3Illinois Bar in 1972 after graduating from the DePaul
4University College of Law; he received his undergraduate degree
5from the University of Dayton in 1969; and
 
6    WHEREAS, From 1969 to 1977, he served in the United States
7Army Reserve; he married Kathleen in 1971, and they have 3
8children, Elizabeth, Tricia, and Patrick, and 2 grandchildren,
9Bridget and Margaret; and
 
10    WHEREAS, He was a Cook County Assistant State's Attorney
11from 1972 to 1978 and in private practice from 1978 to 1988; on
12June 17, 1988, he was sworn in as an Associate Judge of the
13Circuit Court of Cook County and served initially in Traffic
14Court as an assistant supervisor to Judge Wayne Anderson and
15later under Judge Harvey Schwartz; and
 
16    WHEREAS, In 1992, he was elected a full Circuit Judge from
17the 3rd Judicial Subcircuit; from 1993 to 1996, he served in
18the Law Division; in 1996, he was designated the Supervising
19Judge of the Traffic Center, a position he held until August
202001; in his supervisory position in Traffic Court, he served
21as a mentor to more than 120 new judges; and

1    WHEREAS, In July of 2001, Judge McGann was transferred to
2the Chancery Division; in October of 2005, he was named the
3Presiding Judge of the County Division, where he served until
4his retirement on August 31, 2010; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Throughout his tenure on the bench, he lectured
6and taught extensively and was happy to assist his colleagues
7whenever he could; he served as an officer of the Illinois
8Judges Association from 1996 to 2000 and was elected as its
9president in 1999; therefore, be it
 
10    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
11NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
12congratulate Judge McGann on his retirement and wish him all
13the best in his future endeavors; and be it further
 
14    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
15presented to Judge Patrick McGann as a symbol of our respect
16and esteem.
