HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3 Representatives are pleased to congratulate Hattie Mary Walker
4 on the occasion of her 100th birthday on March 25, 2010; and
 
5     WHEREAS, Hattie Walker was born on March 25, 1910, in
6 Jackson, Mississippi to the union of Sims and Mary Hicks
7 Crawford; when she was young, Hattie and her family moved to
8 Indiana Harbor; the family eventually settled in Chicago; and
 
9     WHEREAS, Hattie Walker was employed as a domestic for many
10 years before starting a new career as a mental health aide with
11 the Illinois State Pediatric Institute of Chicago, where she
12 retired after 30 years of loyal and dedicated service; during
13 this time, she was also a member of AFSCME and worked with
14 special needs children; and
 
15     WHEREAS, After her retirement, Hattie Walker enjoyed
16 traveling to many different places; she still looks back fondly
17 on a cruise she took to Alaska; and
 
18     WHEREAS, Hattie Walker is a devout Roman Catholic; she is
19 the longest living member of the Holy Angels Church and is an
20 active member of the church's Knights of St. Peter Claver
21 Ladies Auxiliary; she is also a recipient of the Sister Theo

1 Bowman Award; and
 
2     WHEREAS, Hattie Walker currently resides with her
3 daughter, Betty Cade, in Southshore; she enjoys reading and
4 watching Jeopardy every evening; and
 
5     WHEREAS, Hattie Walker met and married William "Bill"
6 Walker; to their union, a son and 4 daughters were born; the
7 couple also has 21 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, and 6
8 great-great-grandchildren; therefore, be it
 
9     RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
10 NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
11 congratulate Hattie Mary Walker on the occasion of her 100th
12 birthday and wish her many happy and healthy years to come; and
13 be it further
 
14     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
15 presented to Hattie Walker as a symbol of our esteem and
16 respect.
