HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, State Representative Monique D. Davis and the
3 Illinois House of Representatives are saddened to learn of the
4 death of Milton and Ruby McClendon, who passed away on October
5 19, 2009; and
 
6     WHEREAS, Milton McClendon was born on June 19, 1931, in
7 Hammond, Indiana; his parents were William and Geneva
8 McClendon; Ruby McClendon was born on October 17, 1933, in
9 Stanton, Tennessee; her parents were Theodore and Willola
10 Jones; and
 
11     WHEREAS, Milton and Ruby McClendon were both graduates of
12 Hammond High School, graduating with the Classes of 1950 and
13 1951, respectively; Milton served his country with pride and
14 distinction as a member of the United States Army from 1951 to
15 1954; and
 
16     WHEREAS, Milton and Ruby McClendon were united in holy
17 matrimony in 1955; and
 
18     WHEREAS, Milton McClendon was employed with the United
19 States Postal Service for many years until his retirement in
20 1986; Ruby McClendon was employed with Pullman Standard and
21 Tran-Zact in Hammond, Indiana for many years until her

1 retirement in 1988; and
 
2     WHEREAS, Milton and Ruby McClendon were active members in
3 their community; Milton served as a Little League coach and
4 served as a guide and mentor for many aspiring athletes,
5 particularly in track and field; Ruby was an active member of
6 the Hammond Public Schools PTA and served as a den mother for
7 many Cub Scout troops; both Milton and Ruby were dedicated
8 members of the NAACP; and
 
9     WHEREAS, Milton and Ruby McClendon were loyal and dedicated
10 members of the St. Paul Episcopal Church in Munster, Indiana;
11 and
 
12     WHEREAS, Milton McClendon was preceded in death by his
13 parents, William and Geneva, and his brother, Ulysses Napoleon
14 McClendon; Ruby McClendon was preceded in death by her parents,
15 Theodore and Willola Jones; and
 
16     WHEREAS, Milton and Ruby McClendon are survived by their
17 loving sons, Duane (Reba) McClendon, Theodore (Carol Smith)
18 McClendon, and Garrard (Quanica) McClendon; their adoring
19 grandchildren, Olympia (George) McClendon Johnson, ReAnne
20 Namara McClendon, Jocelyn Patrice Russell, Jaiman Duane
21 McClendon, Maximillian Elston McClendon, Tristin Kailan
22 Russell, and Miranda Aurora McClendon; their great-grandchild,

1 Geordan D. Johnson; and their many other family members and
2 friends; Milton is also survived by his sister, Irene Agnel
3 Hayes, and his brother, William (Sylvia) McClendon; and
 
4     WHEREAS, Milton and Ruby McClendon will be remembered by
5 all who knew and loved them as pillars of their community, role
6 models to the countless children and adults they guided through
7 life's trials, and as loving and supportive parents; therefore,
8 be it
 
9     RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
10 NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
11 mourn, along with their family and friends, the passing of
12 Milton and Ruby McClendon; and be it further
 
13     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
14 presented to the family of Milton and Ruby McClendon as an
15 expression of our sympathy.
