HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3 Representatives are pleased to commemorate the groundbreaking
4 ceremony for the new Metra Rock Island District Lovana S. "Lou"
5 Jones/Bronzeville Station, named in honor of the late
6 Representative; and
 
7     WHEREAS, The Metra board voted to name the station, located
8 at 35th Street and Federal Street, the "Lovana S. (Lou)
9 Jones/Bronzeville Metra Station" after an aggressive push by
10 United States Representative Bobby Rush; and
 
11     WHEREAS, Representative Rush submitted a formal request to
12 the Metra Board to name the new Metra stop in honor of the late
13 former Assistant House Majority Leader, who served many years
14 in the Illinois General Assembly; and
 
15     WHEREAS, Representative Jones, who spent nearly 20 years in
16 the Illinois Legislature speaking up for abused children and
17 ex-convicts, passed away in May of 2006; and
 
18     WHEREAS, Representative Jones was known to everyone as
19 "Lou" and chaired the House Committee on Public Safety while in
20 office; and

1     WHEREAS, In 2004, Metra agreed to support the construction
2 of the station; earlier this year, Representative Rush worked
3 aggressively to pass the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act
4 (ARRA), which provided a significant boost to the Metra station
5 project by injecting $7.5 million in economic stimulus dollars
6 into the construction project; groundbreaking on the new
7 project, which will generate 100 construction jobs, will take
8 place on June 29, 2009; therefore, be it
 
9     RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
10 NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
11 commemorate the legacy of our late former colleague and friend
12 Representative Lou Jones and are pleased to see her memory
13 honored in this special way; and be it further
 
14     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
15 presented to the family of the late Representative Lou Jones as
16 a symbol of our respect and esteem.
