HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3 Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of United
4 States Army Specialist David A. Schaefer Jr. of Smithton, who
5 died while serving his country in Baghdad, Iraq on May 16,
6 2009; and
 
7     WHEREAS, David A. Schaefer Jr. was born March 27, 1982, in
8 Belleville; he attended Freeburg High School in Freeburg and
9 worked as a diesel mechanic for Beelman Trucking Company in St.
10 Libory; he later worked for a trucking center in Troy; and
 
11     WHEREAS, Specialist Schaefer served with the Illinois
12 National Guard for 1 1/2 years before being called to active
13 duty in the regular Army; he was assigned to Company C, 1st
14 Battalion, 2nd Infantry Regiment, 172nd Infantry Brigade,
15 Schweinfurt, Germany; and
 
16     WHEREAS, He was a strong-willed, very determined young man
17 and a loving father and husband; he fought for our freedom with
18 bravery and integrity and was proud to be a United States Army
19 soldier; and
 
20     WHEREAS, David Schaefer was preceded in death by his
21 paternal grandparents, Alan and Ada Schaefer; his maternal

1 great-grandparents, William and Violet Bumann; his
2 great-uncle, William Bumann Jr.; and his grandparents-in-law,
3 Aloma Y. Lawrence, Betty J. Sauer, and John Phillips; and
 
4     WHEREAS, United States Army Specialist David A. Schaefer
5 Jr. is survived by his wife, Shelly, nee Phillips, Schaefer;
6 his children, Jason Phillips, Logan Schaefer, and Savanna
7 Schaefer; his father, David A. Schaefer Sr.; his mother,
8 Rhonda, nee Ernst, Kemper; his sisters, Courtney Schaefer and
9 Theresa Schaefer; his brothers, Dwayne (Tiffany) Schaefer and
10 Adam Schaefer; his niece and nephew, Tiffany and Jerry Goodwin;
11 his maternal grandparents, Walter "Red" and Viola, nee Bumann,
12 Ernst; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Richard and
13 Sherry, nee Lawrence, Phillips; his brother-in-law, Jeremy C.
14 (Rachel) Phillips; his sister-in-law, Chrystal Phillips; his
15 grandfather-in-law, Robert Lawrence; and his aunts, uncles,
16 and cousins; therefore, be it
 
17     RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
18 NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
19 mourn, along with his family, friends, and a grateful nation,
20 the passing of United States Army Specialist David A. Schaefer
21 Jr.; and be it further
 
22     RESOLVED, That we honor the memory of United States Army
23 Specialist David A. Schaefer Jr. and his willingness to serve

1 his country, which led to him making the ultimate sacrifice;
2 and be it further
 
3     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
4 presented to the family of United States Army Specialist David
5 A. Schaefer Jr. as a symbol of our sincere sympathy and
6 respect.
