HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3 Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Hubert
4 David of Belmont Village in Glenview, who passed away on May 5,
5 2009; and
 
6     WHEREAS, He was born on April 19, 1925 in Chicago, the
7 beloved son of the late Isaac and Shakar David; and
 
8     WHEREAS, Mr. David was a veteran of World War II and the
9 Battle of the Bulge; he was a former prisoner of war, captured
10 during the Battle of St. Vith; he was wounded while serving in
11 action in Holland; he served with Company B, the 38th Armored
12 Infantry Battalion, 7th Armored Division; as a result of his
13 gallant service to his country, he was awarded the Bronze Star;
14 and
 
15     WHEREAS, He was eighteen years old when he enlisted in the
16 United States Army and began his time of service; he was
17 captured and spent five months in a German prisoner of war
18 camp; he went on to recount these and other stories to family
19 and friends in later years; and
 
20     WHEREAS, Mr. David was involved in competitive
21 weightlifting and held titles in the 165 lb. class for

1 unattached-press, clean and jerk, and other classes; he was a
2 longtime employee of the Teletype Corporation; and
 
3     WHEREAS, In addition to sharing stories of World War II,
4 Mr. David also told of visiting his Uncle Alex in California;
5 his uncle managed the Brown Derby Restaurant and worked under
6 the late, great director and partial owner of the restaurant,
7 Cecil B. DeMille; and
 
8     WHEREAS, He was preceded in death by his parents; and his
9 brothers, Wallace, Edmund, and Leonard David; and
 
10     WHEREAS, Hubert David is survived by his sister, Sharon
11 (Bruce) Peterson; his nephews, David (Beth) and Paul (Joan)
12 Peterson; his great-nephews, Alex, Michael, and Ryan Peterson;
13 and his great-niece, Nicole Peterson; therefore, be it
 
14     RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
15 NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
16 mourn, along with his family and friends, the passing of Hubert
17 David; and be it further
 
18     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
19 presented to the family of Hubert David as a symbol of our
20 sincere sympathy.
