AMENDMENT TO HOUSE BILL 3982

2     AMENDMENT NO. ______. Amend House Bill 3982 as follows:
 
3 on page 2, by replacing line 18 with the following:
4 "adding Section 1-148.3a-5 and by changing Sections 1-182,
5 11-1414.1, 12-802, and 12-821 as follows:"; and
 
6 on page 2, immediately below line 18, by inserting the
7 following:
 
8     "(625 ILCS 5/1-148.3a-5 new)
9     Sec. 1-148.3a-5. Multifunction school activity bus. A
10 multifunction school-activity bus (MFSAB) means a school bus
11 manufactured for the purpose of transporting 11 to 15 persons,
12 including the driver, whose purposes do not include
13 transporting students to and from home or school bus stops. A
14 MFSAB is prohibited from meeting the special requirements for
15 school buses in Sections 12-801, 12-803, and 12-805 and

1 subsection (a) of Section 12-802 of this Code."; and
 
2 on page 3, lines 19 through 22, by deleting ""Multifunction
3 school-activity bus" means a vehicle manufactured for the
4 purpose of transporting 11 to 15 persons, including the
5 driver."; and
 
6 on page 5, immediately below line 25, by inserting the
7 following:
 
8     "(625 ILCS 5/12-802)  (from Ch. 95 1/2, par. 12-802)
9     Sec. 12-802. Identification.
10     (a) Each school bus shall have the sign "SCHOOL BUS"
11 painted on both the front and rear of the bus as high as
12 practicable in letters at least 8 inches high.
13     (b) Each school bus and multifunction school-activity bus
14 (MFSAB) shall have the The vehicle weight and the vehicle
15 maximum passenger capacity recommended by the manufacturer of
16 the bus, which shall be based upon provision for 13 inches of
17 seating space for each passenger exclusive of the driver, shall
18 be painted on the body to the left of the service door in
19 letters at least 2 inches high. The name of the owner or the
20 entity or both for which the school bus or MFSAB is operated or
21 both shall be painted in a contrasting color on both sides,
22 centered as high as practicable below the window line, in

1 number shall be painted as high as practicable on both the
2 front and rear of the school bus or MFSAB in letters at least 4
3 inches high.
4     (c) Decals may be used instead of painting under this
5 Section.

7     (625 ILCS 5/12-821)
8     Sec. 12-821. Display of telephone number; complaint calls.
9     (a) Each school bus and multifunction school-activity bus
10 shall display at the rear of the bus a sign, with letters and
11 numerals readily visible and readable, indicating the
12 telephone number of the owner of the school bus, regardless of
13 whether the owner is a school district or another person or
14 entity. The sign shall indicate that the number is to be called
15 to report erratic driving by the school bus driver.
16     (b) The owner of each school bus or multifunction
17 school-activity bus shall establish procedures for accepting
18 the calls provided for under subsection (a) and for taking
19 complaints.
20     (c) The procedures established under subsection (b) shall
21 include, but not be limited to:
22         (1) an internal investigation of the events that led to
23     each complaint; and
24         (2) a report to the complaining party on the results of
25     the investigation and the action taken, if any.
