20 ILCS 3405/27 new

    Amends the Historic Preservation Agency Act. Provides that every veteran who is a resident of Illinois and a former prisoner of war is exempt from all admission fees in museums that receive State funds. Effective immediately.

1     AN ACT concerning former prisoners of war.
 
2     Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3 represented in the General Assembly:
 
4     Section 5. The Historic Preservation Agency Act is amended
5 by adding Section 27 as follows:
 
6     (20 ILCS 3405/27 new)
7     Sec. 27. Former POWs; free admission. Every veteran who is
8 a resident of Illinois and a former prisoner of war is exempt
9 from all admission fees in museums that receive State funds.
10 For the purposes of this Section, a former prisoner of war is a
11 veteran who was taken and held prisoner by a hostile foreign
12 force while participating in an armed conflict as a member of
13 the United States armed forces. Any identification card or
14 other form of identification issued by the Veterans'
15 Administration or other governmental agency that indicates the
16 card-holder's former prisoner of war status is sufficient to
17 accord the card-holder the fee-exempt admission privileges
18 under this Section.
 
19     Section 99. Effective date. This Act takes effect upon
20 becoming law.
