SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3 learn of the death of Evelyn M. Turner of Lindenhurst, who
4 passed away on September 26, 2008; and
 
5     WHEREAS, She was born on May 4, 1921 in Chicago; she
6 graduated from Rockford College and served in World War II; and
 
7     WHEREAS, She became known as "the dime-store lady" after
8 running the Grayslake Five and Dime with her friend, Winnie
9 Manuel; and
 
10     WHEREAS, She was an active member and supporter of
11 Grayslake United Protestant Church; her varied interest led her
12 to support educational institutions, various conservation
13 organizations, local "people oriented" organizations, and
14 Grayslake Historical Society; and
 
15     WHEREAS, She was preceded in death by her father, John; her
16 mother, Elsie; her brother, John; and her good friend, Winnie
17 Manuel; and
 
18     WHEREAS, She is survived by many good and close friends;
19 therefore, be it

1     RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL
2 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with
3 her family and friends, the passing of Evelyn Turner; and be it
4 further
 
5     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
6 presented to the family of Evelyn M. Turner as a symbol of our
7 sincere sympathy.
