HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3 Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Robert L.
4 "Dog" Connell of Marion, who passed away on May 2, 2008; and
 
5     WHEREAS, He was born on March 1, 1929 in Marion, the son of
6 the William J. and Stella (Robinson) Connell; he was united in
7 marriage to Patsy Douglas on October 3, 1947; and
 
8     WHEREAS, He retired from CIPS in 1990, after 43 years of
9 service; he served on the Marion City Council for 37 years; he
10 served as a Republican precinct committeeman for more than 40
11 years and served as chairman of the Williamson County
12 Republican Party since 1992; he was a member of the First
13 Baptist Church of Marion and a life member of the Elks Lodge
14 800 BPOE of Marion; and
 
15     WHEREAS, He was a member of the 1946 Marion High School
16 basketball team that reached the Elite 8 in the State finals;
17 he was selected as honorable mention on the all-State team and
18 led the South Seven Conference in scoring that year; and
 
19     WHEREAS, He was well-known for his kind and gentle nature
20 and was always willing to help anyone in need; he was proud to
21 be an American, a lifelong citizen of Marion and a member of

1 the Republican Party; he was loved by his family and many
2 friends and will be sadly missed by all who knew him; and
 
3     WHEREAS, He was preceded in death by his parents and one
4 brother, Billy Connell; and
 
5     WHEREAS, He is survived by his wife, Patsy Connell; his
6 three daughters and sons-in-law, Lila and Gilbert Bratten,
7 Jackie and Larry Leonard, and Jami and Mitchell Withers; his
8 son, Robert D. "Bob" Connell; his grandchildren, Brandy Lane,
9 Traci Martin, Douglas Connell, Rachel Connell, Brett Leonard,
10 Tyler Leonard, Zane Withers, and Chase Withers; his
11 great-grandchildren, twins, Noah and Avery Lane, and Karli
12 Martin; his brother and sister-in-law, Jack and Charlotte
13 Connell; his other extended family members and many friends;
14 therefore, be it
 
15     RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
16 NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
17 mourn, along with his family and friends, the passing of Robert
18 L. "Dog" Connell; and be it further
 
19     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
20 presented to the family of Robert L. "Dog" Connell as a symbol
21 of our sincere condolences.
