HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3 Representatives are pleased to help commemorate the life of
4 Jeremy Chambers, a police officer with the Cahokia Police
5 Department, who was killed in the line of duty on April 24,
6 2006; and
 
7     WHEREAS, Officer Chambers was a police officer with the
8 Cahokia Police Department and a member of FOP Lodge 216 and the
9 International Police Association, Lodge 57; he was a past
10 captain and training officer with the Cahokia Volunteer Fire
11 Department, where he was the department's Firefighter of the
12 Year in 1999; and
 
13     WHEREAS, He graduated from Gibault Catholic High School in
14 Waterloo in 1998 and Southwestern Illinois Police Academy in
15 2003, where he won the Marksman Award; he was a member of the
16 Knights of Columbus Council 4596 in Cahokia; and
 
17     WHEREAS, Jeremy Chambers was a volunteer firefighter who
18 went to New York City after the attacks on September 11, 2001
19 to help in rescue efforts; he also worked as an emergency
20 medical technician, volunteer fireman, and an auxiliary
21 policeman, and a lifeguard before being hired by the police
22 department; and

1     WHEREAS, Jeremy Chambers was the only police officer to be
2 killed in the line of duty in the 79 year history of the
3 Cahokia Police Department; and
 
4     WHEREAS, Jeremy Chambers was from a family dedicated to law
5 enforcement, including his father, brother, sister-in-law, and
6 brother-in-law; and
 
7     WHEREAS, He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Earl
8 and Virginia Chambers and Ralph and Dathney Hooker; and his
9 aunt, Connie McCollom; and
 
10     WHEREAS, Jeremy Chambers is survived by his parents, Earl
11 and Diane, nee Hooker, Chambers; his brother, Chris (Jessica)
12 Chambers; his sister, Denise (Mark) Schilli; his nephew,
13 Garrett; his nieces, Logan and Hayden; and a dear friend,
14 Cheryl Caribardi; and
 
15     WHEREAS, On April 24, 2007 a Celebration of the Life of
16 Jeremy Chambers will be held, with Mass at Holy Family Church,
17 a monument dedication, and a dinner and candlelight vigil at
18 the Knights of Columbus Hall; therefore, be it
 
19     RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
20 NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we

1 celebrate, along with his family and friends, the life of
2 Jeremy Chambers; and be it further
 
3     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
4 presented to the family of Jeremy Chambers and the Cahokia
5 Police Department as a symbol of our respect.
