SYNOPSIS AS INTRODUCED:
 
105 ILCS 5/2-3.148 new

    Amends the School Code. Encourages the implementation in schools of International Baccalaureate Organization programs by providing that, subject to appropriation, the State Board of Education shall grant (i) a one-time $3,000 equipment grant for providing an international baccalaureate course, (ii) $100 for each student who scores a 4 or better on at least one international baccalaureate examination, and (iii) $650 for each student who graduates through the International Baccalaureate Organization's Diploma Program for the reimbursement of diploma costs, to be paid to a school based on need, as determined by the State Board.

1     AN ACT concerning education.
 
2     Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3 represented in the General Assembly:
 
4     Section 5. The School Code is amended by adding Section
5 2-3.148 as follows:
 
6     (105 ILCS 5/2-3.148 new)
7     Sec. 2-3.148. International Baccalaureate Organization
8 course incentive.
9     (a) In this Section:
10     "International baccalaureate course" means a high school
11 level preparatory course for an international baccalaureate
12 examination that incorporates each topic specified by the
13 International Baccalaureate Organization on its standard
14 syllabus for a particular subject area.
15     "International baccalaureate examination" means the
16 international baccalaureate examination administered by the
17 International Baccalaureate Organization.
18     (b) Subject to appropriation, the State Board of Education
19 shall grant (i) a one-time $3,000 equipment grant for providing
20 an international baccalaureate course, (ii) $100 for each
21 student who scores a 4 or better on at least one international
22 baccalaureate examination, and (iii) $650 for each each student
23 who graduates through the International Baccalaureate
