AMENDMENT TO HOUSE BILL 232

2     AMENDMENT NO. ______. Amend House Bill 232, AS AMENDED, by
3 replacing everything after the enacting clause with the
4 following:
 
5     "Section 5. The School Code is amended by adding Section
6 2-3.142 as follows:
 
7     (105 ILCS 5/2-3.142 new)
8     Sec. 2-3.142. Task Force on Virtual Education. There is
9 created the Task Force on Virtual Education to consider and
10 recommend best practices in virtual education. The Task Force
11 shall consist of the following members:
12         (1) Two members of the higher education community, one
13     appointed by the Speaker of the House and one appointed by
14     the Minority Leader of the Senate.
15         (2) Two members of professional teachers' unions, one
16     appointed by the President of the Senate and one appointed

1     by the Minority Leader of the House.
2         (3) Two representatives of the State Board of
3     Education, appointed by the State Superintendent of
4     Education.
5         (4) One representative appointed by a statewide
6     organization representing school administrators and school
7     board members.
8         (5) One representative of the business community
9     appointed by a statewide organization representing
10     businesses.
11         (6) One member of the Chicago Board of Education (or
12     his or her designee) appointed by the President of the
13     Chicago Board of Education.
14         (7) One representative of a statewide virtual school
15     appointed by the State Superintendent of Education.
16         (8) The following members to be appointed by the
17     Governor:
18             (A) One member with training or expertise in
19         information and communications technologies.
20             (B) One member who is a current teacher employed by
21         a virtual school in a city having a population
22         exceeding 500,000.
23             (C) One member with training or expertise in early
24         childhood development.
25             (D) One member who is a parent of a child currently
26         enrolled in a virtual school in a city having a

1         population exceeding 500,000.
2             (E) One member who is a teacher or a parent of a
3         child currently enrolled in a statewide virtual school
4         program.
5     The Task Force shall be facilitated by the State Board of
6 Education.
7     The Task Force shall report its findings and
8 recommendations to the General Assembly, the Governor, and the
9 State Board of Education on or before 2 years after the
10 effective date of this amendatory Act of the 95th General
11 Assembly. Upon filing its report, the Task Force is
12 dissolved.".
