SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of the Senate of the State of Illinois
3 learned with sadness of the passing of Margaret Ann Welch on
4 January 4, 2007; and
 
5     WHEREAS, Margaret Ann Welch was born on January 16, 1938 in
6 Christiansberg, West Virginia to Walter Evans and Elizabeth
7 Dobbins; she was raised by her grandmother, Hattie Dobbins; and
 
8     WHEREAS, While growing up in Christiansberg, she was
9 baptized at Rufand Ready Baptist Church and sang in the choir;
10 and
 
11     WHEREAS, Following the passing of her grandmother,
12 Margaret Ann moved to Gary, West Virginia and later to
13 Anniston, Alabama; she attended Cobb High School where she met
14 Leon Welch, who became her husband for 49 years; and
 
15     WHEREAS, Leon and Margaret Welch relocated to Chicago in
16 1958; soon after they welcomed their daughters, Lisa Darlene
17 and Kathryn Virginia; and
 
18     WHEREAS, For more than 20 years, Mrs. Welch worked as a
19 trainer at Spiegel's; and
 
20     WHEREAS, In 1976, Mrs. Welch attended St. Ethelreda Church
21 where she converted to Catholicism and was an active member for
22 more than 30 years; she later worked as a secretary for St.
23 Ethelreda parish for more than 25 years, retiring in January
24 2005; and
 
25     WHEREAS, The passing of Margaret Ann Welch has been deeply
26 felt by many, especially her daughters, Lisa Welch (Dwight
27 Austin), and Kathryn Virginia Welch; her brother, John
28 Bradford, Jr.; her grandson, Dwight Leander Austin; her aunt,

1 Beatrice Wars; her cousin, Laura Byrd; and a host of extended
2 family and close friends; she was preceded in death by her
3 husband, Leon Welch and her mother, Elizabeth Bradford;
4 therefore, be it
 
5     RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL
6 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
7 Margaret Ann Welch, and we extend our deepest sympathy to her
8 family, her friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it
9 further
 
10     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution presented
11 to her family as an expression of our sincerest condolences.
